If your abuser suspects you are thinking about leaving you may be in danger so please consider your safety at all times.

Preventing risk to other people that are close to you, like family and friends, when you leave is also important.

  • It is important to keep your plans from your children until you have left. If they don’t know anything, they can’t tell anyone.
  • Once you have left, you must explain to them why you have done what you have done and that none of it is their fault.
  • Decide who you want to give your new contact details to after you have left.
  • Your friends and family may be at risk if your abuser tries to contact you through them. Advise them to contact the police immediately on telephone 999 if they are threatened or feel that they are in danger.
