If you need to contact the police or support services, but it is not safe to do so from home, there are safe spaces you can access to make a call or to be signposted to help. Always contact the police on 999 if you or you children are in immediate danger.
National Ask for ANI Scheme
The Government has launched a national scheme using Boots pharmacies and some independent pharmacies. ANI stands for Action Needed Immediately. Participating pharmacies will display an ASK FOR ANI poster and if you need help, ask a member of staff for ANI and they will take you to a private consultation room where you can contact the police or support services.
National Scheme - UK Says No More
Many pharmacies including Boots, Superdrug, Well, Morrison's Pharmacies, branches of TSB and other businesses are offering a safe space for anyone who needs to contact the police or support services. You can find out which outlets are offering these spaces locally by searching on UK Says No More.
In addition to safe spaces Royal Mail, Parcel Force, Post Office and the Ministry of Defence websites have included a light blue Safe Space UK Says No More logo. Click on the logo which takes you to a hidden section of the website where you can input town or postcode and find local support services. Other national organisations may support this initiative going forward.
Schools & Children's Centres
All Torbay schools have offered a safe space to contact services. You can ask staff for help at the school where your children usually attend. If you or your children use any of the Children's Centres in Torbay, ask a member of staff. Children's Centres have trained DA Champions on site.
GP Surgeries
All GP surgeries in Torbay have an IRIS Advocate, a trained professional who can identify when someone's symptoms may be connected to domestic abuse or sexual violence. They can offer advice and refer to appropriate support or help. Ask in your surgery.
